Shaykh ^Abdullah mentioned three cases about associating literal light to the Prophet: 1. Whoever believes that Allaah created something called the light of Muhammad before everything; as the first creation, is not charged with blasphemy, rather, he is deemed mistaken, because he has opposed three authentic hadiyths: a. The hadiyth of Abuw Hurayrah that the Prophet said: كُلُّ شَيْءٍ خُلِقَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ “Everything was created from the water.” This hadiyth is narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, who authenticated it. b. The hadiyth narrated from a group of the the Companions’ sons, who learned from their fathers, who learned from the Messenger of Allaah that: إنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَخْلُقْ شَيْئًا مِمَّا خَلَقَ قَبْلَ الْمَاءِ “Allaah did not create anything of all that He created before the water.” Haafidh Ibn Hajar narrated this in the chapter of the beginning of the creation, upon mentioning: c. The hadiyth: كَانَ اللَّهُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْءٌ غَيْرُهُ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ “Allaah was (existing [eternally]) and there was nothing other than Him, and His ^Arsh was over the water.” These two, the water and the ^Arsh, were the first of creations. The water was first, and the ^Arsh was second, as realized by the Prophet saying, “…over the water”; it indicates that the ^Arsh was delayed after that origin, and that also is proven from the first two hadiyths. 2. The second case is that the one who believes that Muhammad’s SOUL is created from light is [also] not charged with blasphemy. However, nothing was narrated about that, and we are forbidden from delving into what we do not know. Allaah says: Do not say what you do not know. 3. The third is that, unlike the first two cases, whoever believes that Muhammad’s body is created from light BLASPHEMES for contradicting the Qur’aan. Allaah said: O, Muhammad, say, “I am a human like you.” This proves that he was created from the fluid of his parents. He became sick, he bled, he cried. He married and had children. He used to eat food and walk through the market, etc. This is not in reference to his superiority as a prophet, but to his CREATION; he was created as humans are normally created.
