She is one of my favorite women. She is not only a wise and intelligent thinker, but a resilient person who has overcome traumatic experiences. In the modern time there is a chasm between philosophy and life. A philosopher in the modern time is merely a person who is able to solve certain logical and epistemological problems in the same way that a computer expert is trained to fix computers technical problems. In the modern world, this gap can be seen in education and life. People get educated without learning how to live their lives. However, in the premodern time the purpose of education was learning how to live a good and virtuous life. Philosophy was a way of living and a way of remaking yourself based on virtues and principle of reason. However, she talks about thinking, as an act rooted in traumatic experiences, as a kind of gift to humanity. Thinking as giving that helps us to heal our wounds!
