She rushed into the almost empty bus as if being pursued, her heavy make-up had been re-arranged by sweat, and despite the empty spaces around, she sat next to me. Her big sack of empty bottles could only mean she had just left either Computer Village or probably Ipodo, the available markets around under bridge, Ikeja. She didnt say hello, neither did i remember to say Hi, i just wished she hadnt found a sit next to me as her perfume and body odour had engaged in a fight for presence. Another lady rushed in again, also disregarded other seats and joined our row, she however maintained the status quo -silence. No one cared nor said a word till the bus was filled and moved. I had found solace in the boring view the window had afforded me untill the conductors voice jolted my sensitivity back to the bus, bros your money? i paid my money but realized how busy the ladies imposed on me had been, the first had maintained a stare at her sack while the other kept looking for what only she knew in her small handbag, both had ensured they made no eye contact by being busy with nothing. And just after each payed, it was like a single button unpaused them, they turned to each other and chorused, whaaaaat, so it is you?, so youve been here all these while and I didnt know the sack lady said, then the exchange, their deafening and boring conversation started. How i wished the conductor had delayed payment a bit longer so these hypocrites would let us breathe. It was obvious they had seen each other from the start but none wanted to pay for the other
