Shearer says housing policy not racist - David Shearer discusses Labour’s housing policy that restricts foreign ownership of residential properties. tvnz.co.nz/breakfast-news/shearer-says-housing-policy-not-racist-video-5521162 David: Please do not compare NZ with China, Hong Kong and Singapore. 1. None of these countries have democracies. 2. China never let any foreigners to own anything, including businesses. The country is a communist country and yes there are arguments that it is not very communist now, they are still a communist country and will do whatever they wanted to do. 3. The vast number of foreign buyers in those countries are actually Mainland Chinese, not European. Both Singapore and HK are trying to stop Mainland Chinese from buying and we all know this is race related. 4. None of these countries have the same level of race relations and tolerence we have here in NZ. Those Chinese who inflat the price will still find a way to do so. They simply pay in cash. This is what they have been doing overseas. And a lot of Kiwis already say "if you go to an auction you see all these Asian faces". They are already making assumptions that we Asian New Zealanders are foreign buyers. This is going to reinforce the sterotype. As a matter of fact, we also have Australians and Brits who are buying and no one ever talk about them. We would appreciate that you stick to looking at ways to cool down the property market, especially those in Auckland. And look at ways that perhaps boost the property market in provincial areas.
