Sheffield footballers spread Christmas cheer far and wide Football heroes from Sheffield United helped spread some Christmas cheer to youngsters across the city. Players and staff visited four organisations as part of a special community day to deliver festive goodies. Michael Doyle, club captain, said: “As players, we are honoured to come on community visits on behalf of the club. “We’re privileged as footballers to be recognised and it’s so nice to be able to give something back and put a smile on children’s faces, especially at Christmas time.” Players stopped off for their annual visit at Sheffield Children’s Hospital where they brought smiles to the faces of young patients, some of whom will spend Christmas Day in hospital. They also visited pupils and staff at Norfolk Park Special Needs School in Sheffield, and called in at Hallam FM in Hillsborough to support its Cash for Kids charity The Star-backed Mission Christmas appeal to give gifts to disadvantaged children. Louise Davies, Cash for Kids charity manager, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Sheffield United and their brilliant fans for the donation of Mission Christmas gifts. “Together we have helped thousands of local children.
