Shepherd update: We had xrays taken today and our gorgeous guy has an old fracture on his left leg and apparently, never got seen by a vet. Instead of the bone lining up, the broken ends overlap and a callous is forming around the break. His left hip also has inflammation in it and whether it was caused by a traumatic injury--such as being hit by a car, is unknown. On his right leg, there are at least two knotty bone chips. We were given the option to do surgery which would be between 1500 to 2200 dollars or simply wait. It is not believed that he is in pain, but it may be too early to tell simply because we havent had him that long to judge before pain meds to after pain meds. We have been offered help by another veterinarian in town who has already seen the xrays. New xrays will be taken tomorrow and another examination. It is possible there is more going on than just a badly broken leg. We are waiting until tomorrow to make any decisions for treatment. This is truly heartbreaking to watch this dog and think about what he did go through at the time of injury. He is gorgeous, smart, gentle, and affectionate. And huge! He weighs 88 lbs and is only about 2 years old. We are hoping to be able to do right by him. Please keep him in your thoughts and thank you for your donations and your support.
