Sherman said, War is hell. The standards of a just war, from an historical Christian position, are well known (even though some say outdated); however, falsification of data is NOT one of them! When one ponders a just war (if one agrees with the notion), and examines history concerning war, a Christian, it would seem to me, would reject two things: 1) trust that dwarfs into uncritical nationalism and 2) a cynicism that rejects ones civic responsibility. Additionally he/she would affirm at least three things: 1) a rigorous, free and independent press and 2) a sustained caution as to real time events, and finally 3) a willingness to engage in humanitarian assistance both within and without the borders of our military. So Sherman was correct, insofar as war itself is concerned, but we need to look at the steps that get us into war. History shows us this too can be a form of hell.
