Sherpa Dance - Suna- Shimbi- Mantok. Its is believed from our ancestor that we have rich cultureral and traditional which is renounce all over the world, today also our younger generation follow the path which was followed from early time. According to the Sherpa language the word shyar means east, pa means people and settled in north east side that why we are called Sherpa. The Sherpa generally love to live in lonely hilly terrains. They grow Maize, barly, Wheat, Radish, Ginger, Millet, Cardamom, Bean, pea, Potatoes in their land. Sherpa New Year or Gyalpo losar festivals is fall in the second or third month of English calendar which is also celebrated by Tibetans and some Bhutia also. In that day youngster go to their relative home for wishing new year and happy year ahead and from the elder side they give money and scarf to the youngster with blessing and enjoys the day with singing and dancing, this is a day or occasion where all the family members meet, who are living at different places meanly for jobs. Gyalpo Losar is the festivals of New Year, entertainment and happiness. This festival is celebrated for whole month. The Sherpas living in the mountains region have been greatly influence by the natural surroundings. The songs, dance and music of the sherpas are deeply influence by their religious beliefs. At the time of harvesting and sowing we enjoy this movement by dancing and singing and welcome the season and pray to god, to blessing us this year with productive produce and fruitfully agriculture not only in particular area but all over the world for peace and prosperous. In Sherpa culture after the harvesting the people gather all over the village and neighboring village and enjoy the movement by singing. a famous song call (suna shimbe mantok)which means that smell of flower, at this song four girls and four boys dance and praising that spread the smell of flower all over the world, and another song (gormo chham) is group dance in this song its tell us that how our earth evolve in ancient time. Apart from this we have different song which is sing in different occasion like (khyim tashi) which means when we are starting new inaugural like house, shop, hotel and new bride etc. at that time we sing this song in group and enjoy the occasion with friend, relative and family. at the time of inaugural or khyim Tashi we invite the lamas, he play a prominent part of ceremonies by reading from the holy scriptures whole day for happiness and prosperity and peacefully all over universe after reading the holy scriptures we homage to lama from our core heart and pay thanks for the attending at the ceremonies and offer colorful Tashi Khada (scarf) and then before we depart from there again we sing a song and dance, lastly we departed from there with full of joys and happiness. In Sikkim we find Sherpa traditional and cultural meanly in those areas where the Sherpa communities are dominated but if we see in generally the way we follow our custom and tradition are more or less very similar with other community like Bhutia, Tibetan, etc. In considerations of the richness of their dialect and language the government of Sikkim has recognized the Sherpa language as one of the official language of Sikkim. In Sikkim we all community leave as our brother and sister as one family and I am proud to be a Sikkimese and the land of BYEYUI DEMOZONG which means hidden Sikkim and blessing of Guru Padma Samvawa.
