Cyprus Cement collided with marina and pleasure boats in Levanger, Norway By admin – Posted on July 8, 2013Posted in: Ships Accidents Cyprus Cement ship The cement carrier Cyprus Cement had accident in the marine of Levanger caving collision with several pleasure boats, caused by bow thruster failure. The cargo ship crushed 10-15 boats into the marine in the Norwegian city, trying to leave the port. The vessel had a tug assistance during the maneuvering, but unfortunately due to the delayed reaction was not able to stop its speed. The marina, docks and several boats were damages seriously but fortunately there were no seriously injured people during the accident. The police and fire department started cleaning of the damages over the port, which were valued of more than 1 million Norwegian crowns. The cement carrier Cyprus Cement was trying to leave the port in spite of the accident, but was stopped by the Coast Guard and detained for inspection and investigation for the collision. The cement carrier Cyprus Cement (IMO: 9037173) has overall length of 97.00 m, moulded beam of 17.00 m and maximum draft of 4.70 m. The cargo ship has deadweight of 4,555 DWT and gross tonnage of 4,096 GRT. The vessel was built in Damen Shipyard Galati, Romania in 2002 and passed all necessary surveys and safety checks correctly a few months ago. The cement carrier is owned and managed by the Norwegian company Kgj Cement Fleet Management.
