Shirdi Sai Baba’s statue is alive Experience told by senior priest of Sri Sai Baba’s Sansthan to Dr. Rabindra Nath Kakarya: source: “Sri Sai Baba-The Saviour page 110 Apendix A I had just joined the Sansthan as a priest. I was deputed in Samadhi Mandir for doing Baba’s Mangal Snan (Holy Bath) and Kakad Arati. I’d been wearing a silver ring in my right hand for quite some time. I was bathing Baba’s statue for the first time. I rubbed butter etc. on Baba’s face with my right hand and then poured Ganga Jal on Baba’s statue and gave him a proper bath. But on the same night Baba came into my dream and showed scratches on his face and said, “See, what your ring has done to my face. If you’re so fond of wearing the ring, then during bathing of the statue you should either wear the ring in your left hand can take it out for the time when bathing is going on.” I realised my mistake. From that day onwards I take off the silver ring and wrap it in a corner of my dhoti and carefully give bath to Sri Baba’s statue. Baba has himself said, “Looking at my photograph is the same as having my darshan.” After getting the job in the Sansthan, I was not satisfied due to some family problems. Desperate and disheartened, I used to think, “When will a male child be born in my house? When will I have my own house? ” In despair and frustration half-heartedly I took the decision of resigning from the Sansthan and to go back to my village and to start some small-scale business or do some other work to look after my family. It was Diwali festival, I was doing Laxmi Poojan in the Samadhi Mandir and was thinking in mind that it is the last Laxmi Poojan which I’m performing in the Samadhi Mandir because now I would leave the job and go away from Shirdi. After completing the puja and rituals, I came out of the temple and started to go back. It was night time. I was walking down a dark lane near Shirdi Post Office with an upset mind. At the corner of the lane was standing an old Fakir with his hand stretched towards me. (You find many such beggars, Fakirs dressed like Sai Baba, roaming in the streets of Shirdi). With irritation fretfully I said, “Baba, I don’t have anything to give you this moment.” That Fakir Baba said, “So, you have come after completing the Laxmi Poojan. You will not be able to live Shirdi. I’m not asking you for anything, but you take this and keep it in your temple in your house.” Saying this, he placed 2-3 coins in my hand. I was not able to understand anything and came back quietly to my house. On reaching my house, I opened my hand and found two-three coins of the British time. Now a question came to my mind how the Fakir standing in the street knew that I was coming from the Samadhi Mandir after doing Laxmi Puja and I was planning to leave Shirdi. Apart from this, only Baba had the Britisher’s coins. If he were an ordinary Fakir like those roaming in the streets of Shirdi, how could he have such old coins? Anyway, I kept those coins with faith and devotion in my temple. After some time with Baba’s blessings, my wife gave birth to a baby boy and now I have my own house in Shirdi. Today I am fully satisfied. My main aim is to serve Baba while living in Shirdi till my last breath. All this is Baba’s blessings.
