Shoot some prayers over to Alison and Chris. Alison has been fighting some lung issues over the past few weeks. If you dont know Chris and Alison... This is Alisons blog: hopeforalison.org/ Here is a video that gives a good intro to them: https://vimeo/65203732 Here is her story on NOPW: nopw.org/alison Here is an update from Chris: Heres the update for today. Last night, as per usual, the TPA got Alisons vitals all out of wack. Her temp got up to 102, and heart rate was staying around 140. She had a hard time falling asleep, so we were up until about 1:30 before she fell asleep. Around 4:30 her heart rate started jumping around from 130 to 170 to 200, then back. It did that a few times and got everyone worried so they called the rapid response team and said we were going back to ICU. They were throwing around atrial fibrillation a lot. So I rushed to get the room packed up, and Alison woke up to a room full of worried people so she got upset. But once she woke up, her heart rate went back to a normal rhythm. Within an hour her vitals were perfect again. So we narrowly avoided ICU last night. The chest tube ended up draining more than expected. It started slow so I figured it wouldnt do much. But it flowed steady all day/night. Thats not encouraging from an empty lung equals going home perspective. Since it drained a lot, they wanted to do more TPA today. But it messes her vitals up every time and theyre finally taking notice (after four times). So they ordered another CT scan before deciding for sure. The scan this afternoon showed most of the lung had cleared, except for a small pocket of gunk just out of reach of the current tube. They debated between adding more TPA and hoping it would reach it (and mess up her vitals in the process) or adding a second chest tube at the site of the leftover gunk. We opted for a second tube and were back in ICU after all. Its drained a good amount so far and theyll probably put some TPA in it tomorrow (fun). So tonight we rest. Shes in a good amount of pain after the second tube, but at least her vitals will remain stable. So the best case scenario seems to be getting the first tube removed ASAP (as soon as its done draining), then the second one soon thereafter. But Im guessing itll be another 3-4 days at best. Sigh. Its gonna end up being a two week stay when all is said and done. Sorry for the essay. It helps me process everything by rehashing it out here. Thanks for following along. The saga continues.
