Short exercise workouts effective in reducing weight: A 10-minute - TopicsExpress

Short exercise workouts effective in reducing weight: A 10-minute cardiometabolic workout was shown to be more effective in reducing weight among physicians without comorbidities than a regular walking exercise by a study conducted by Dr. Maria February Cruz and Dr. Rafael Cruz. A comparison of the reductions in anthropometric measurements before and after the trial showed that the 10-minute exercise regimen reduced baseline anthropometric measurements far more effectively than a regular walking exercise. The group that used the 10-minute exercise regimen lost an average of 4.88 kg, reduced body mass index (BMI) by 1.80 kg/m2, shed 5.04 cm in waist circumference, and reduced the waist-to-hip ratio by 0.06. In comparison, the group that used regular walking exercise was noted to have had on average 1.31 kg weight loss, 0.60 kg/m2 BMI reduction, 2.77 cm reduction in waist circumference, and 0.03 waist-to-hip ratio reduction. A busy schedule is often cited as one of the many reasons why people do not exercise. One of the professional groups that have busy schedules is physicians. While physicians know the benefits of daily exercise, many do not have a regular regimen because of their busy work schedules. So, the investigators selected physicians to find out whether a brief cardiometabolic exercise regimen that could easily fit in a tight schedule would be beneficial or not and whether it would be comparable to daily walking exercise. The investigators recruited and screened physicians in Rizal province. After explaining what the study is, getting baseline measurements, and obtaining consent from the physicians, the investigators randomly assigned them to either walk daily or do a 10-minute exercise daily for two months. Then post-intervention anthropometric measurements were taken. Apart from significant reductions in weight, BMI, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio, the subjects also experienced improvements in strength and flexibility. Since the 10-minute regimen is easy to do, the investigators recommended it to other professionals with busy work schedules like teachers and lawyers. The regimen does not need a lot of space and can be done in small gardens, offices, and condominiums, which eliminates the need to go to a gym. Additionally, the regimen is cheap because it does not need heavy equipment or expensive attires. To expand the findings of this study, the investigators recommended performing basic blood chemistry tests to document the 10-minute regimen’s effects on metabolic markers such as blood sugar levels and cholesterol.
