Short review of a short film made by Armish Sonkar, a talented up-and-coming director. Armish impresses in this film with much better cinematography, sharper editing, cutting dialogues and edgier plot than his earlier works. The story revolves around a reporter and his friend who are doing well in the rapidly developing Indian economy but want more. More than their bosses, more than their relatives and more than the politicians. Complicating this race is the intermittent urge to stay true to the profession of media, the fourth pillar of democracy. Several expected and some unexpected turns take them on a doomed adventure which has an ending quite reminiscent of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. Armish is clearly influenced by the techniques of Anurag Kashyap. He uses contemporary political events to nicely time his story, at the same drawing parallels between the micro plot of this story and the macro national level happenings. Despite failing to clearly establish the relationship between the characters and their motivations, the story picks up speed and entertains in the second half. Several minor episodes exemplify the title of the story - Khunnas, personal vendetta over an apparently trivial matter. An apt title for a recurring story in country where a billion people are driven by Khunnas more than anything else. Stay tuned to Armish and AAM AADMI Production for more.
