Shortly after Jason Crowley died, Thomas Howard gave me a book - TopicsExpress

Shortly after Jason Crowley died, Thomas Howard gave me a book called ‘You gotta keep dancing’ and in it I found a quote that has crossed my mind every day since: “More of life should be like this, I think. We’ve become so insulated. A person can go a whole lifetime in our society without getting really cold, really hot, really tired, really thirsty. Too much padding, too little life..” I have lived the majority of my 24 year old life pretty comfortably, yet like most people I still find reasons to complain, still find ways to not be appreciative, and I still don’t thank God for all of my undeserved blessings nearly as much as I should. I have been mentally and emotionally challenged in a big way over the last year, but I still feel like there’s more to learn, more substance to add to this heart of mine. That being said, I am so excited to announce that I have recently made the decision to go to HAITI next month with a team of 10 other people through 410 Bridge (https://410bridge.org/#sthash.q5Vj48KY.dpbs) from November 19th - 25th. Well be serving in the community of Raymond/Oban, where our plans include a safe water project and an educational infrastructure. Basically, I’m equal parts excited and terrified. Anyone close to me knows I hate flying (waiting until you’re 22 will do that to you…), have only been out of the country once, and if you do the math.. have one month to prepare both financially and mentally for this. But I want this, so I’m going to do it. I want to be uncomfortable, and dirty, and sad for what I’m seeing. I want to be drained and love on people I don’t know and miss home and marvel at simple things. I want to make Jason proud. Whether you are religious or not, please keep my team in your prayers and/or thoughts as we embark on this journey. One big reservation that I still have is fundraising. 410 Bridge is a wonderful organization, and they have provided a ‘Fundraising Page’ for me to raise the $1,850 and also awareness of this project. Please do not feel obligated, but if you feel so led - you can donate to mine at https://410bridge.pledgeraiser.org/p/haileyquick89/2014h-haiti-open-trip-fundraising-page-2. Donations are tax deductible, and I would be forever grateful.
