Shortly after the battle of Adwa Emperor Menelik made another historical announcement to prove that generosity is profoundly Ethiopian. “The land of Ethiopia is opened freely to everyone who wants to come and reside or to do business peacefully, Emperor Menelik announced to the Europeans,,, our country is given to us from above to share it with all of you. So come to us as soon as you can, and when you do make sure to bring us all your useful technology but not even a bit of your culture for we have got our own already. By the year 1902 Addis Abeba was filled with westerners from all over Europe some to see the king, and many others just wondering around, most looking for work or to reside. In his journal Scholar Wylde mentioned meeting a certain shoemaker from Turkey carrying several newly made sandals that he brought to present to Emperor Menelik. History doesn’t have any record to show if the shoemaker ever succeeded to pass the sandals he carried all the way from Turkey to the hands of Emperor Menelik, but Scholar Wylde noted meeting the shoemaker once more about two months after their first encounter while still carrying the sandals. In those years meeting the royal families was so difficult, in fact it was as hard as meeting God of the heaven. Following the announcement of the most generous king the westerners flooded to Ethiopia by a thousand but by the year 1913 when a rumor about the death of Emperor Menelik suddenly leak many of them abandoned their life and immediately left Ethiopia ,Scholar Wylde stated. Emperor Menelik was uncommonly compassionate to the Europeans .
