Should Arsenal sell Vermaelen and Arteta to Serie A?? There has been widespread speculation about the future of Thomas Vermaelen at Arsenal Football Club. The Belgium international is thought to be ready to move on due to the defensive pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny keeping him out of the first team. At the moment we are just waiting to see if the joy of an FA cup win might persuade him to stay. But with just a year left of his current Arsenal contract, it is likely that Arsene Wenger will sell him this summer if he does not want to sign a new deal. That would make the 28-year old the third club captain to leave the Gunners in four years, after Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie. Not a great stat for the club! And it could be even worse if there is any truth to this Express report which claims that Serie A club Fiorentina is preparing a double swoop for Vermaelen and the Arsenal vice-captain Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard is also entering the final year of his deal and has recently turned 32-years old. With Arsenal looking to strengthen the midfield and hopefully add the pace and power that we lacked at crucial stages of the Premier League this season, maybe Wenger might take the chance to cash in on Arteta. I hope not, because I think the Spaniard still has a lot to offer to Arsenal. He helps us to dominate games against the lesser teams, which has been a real strength for us this season, and his experience and leadership qualities will be hard to replace. More importantly, perhaps, is that he wants to stay. What do you think Gooners? #Arsenio_Scorcher
