Should homeschooling be banned to promote "tolerance"? The Peabody Journal of Education (published in cooperation with Vanderbilt University) is one of the leading academic journals in the nation. It recently published a special edition on homeschooling. Brian Ray, President of the National Home Education Research Institute was a guest editor for this edition. He worked under the supervision of Peabody’s general editors. I was invited to write one of the articles for this edition. My article (which can fairly be described as hard-hitting) takes on the academic elites (particularly certain law school professors) who have called for the dramatic curtailment of homeschooling freedom. Some advocate that homeschooling and private education should be banned entirely. Why? Why do they seek to ban homeschooling? They contend that Christian homeschooling teaches children to be intolerant. By intolerant they mean that we teach our children that there are absolute truths about God, morality, and life. I argue that these professors are walking in the shoes of the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi Germany who sought to ban education that taught values differing from their own. The Academic Left does not believe in liberty—their versions of tolerance are unrecognizable to a people trained in freedom. It is a great honor for me to have this article published in the PJE.
