Should probably let yall know, the Open Mic at The Local every Tuesday is over and done with. Ill be looking for another venue ASAP to get the show going again! Apologies to the performers who took part week after week and loved our show, apparently beer sales are more more important than the consistent dedication and hard work put in by myself and the other performers who provided free entertainment, for the love of the music, often playing only to the other performers and VLT zombies. Its really a shame nobody but myself and the performers took the initiative to help bring in more people. Nobody bothered printing several poster designs I made and offered to poster, nobody bothered sharing events or inviting people. When your show host provides you with methods of bringing in more people to your bar, take the steps to bring those people in. Print the posters, get the space in the paper, get the time on the radio. Its hard enough to find a hard working dedicated triple threat host/performer/soundperson that isnt a drunk. Once youve got that person, build the show around them and create a community, a group of regulars. Target specific demographics of people. Students, young musicians. Target them with specials, graphic design, good music. Dont do nothing for a year, and then swap out your employee when your sales are down on a Tuesday. Tuesday Night Open Mic written in black in on a white page with nothing else on it, isnt a poster or advertising. A tiny blurb in a facebook group description that nobody reads, isnt advertising. Why not train your host to work your bar, rather than paying two people to do one persons job? Why not organize your sound system appropriately so when new performers show up, they dont take one look at the empty bar and shitty sound set up and walk out immediately. Anywho, keep em peeled folks, Twerp is getting ready to record and Im looking for a new open mic venue!!
