Shout out to the The State Journal-Register for the article about tonights performer here at Boondocks, Wade Bowen and our Saturday night performer The Charlie Daniels Band! Wade Bowen (“Saturday Night,” “When I Woke up Today”) has carved out a music career in Texas over the last 13 years. He brings his brand of outlaws-inspired music to Springfield Thursday night at Boondocks Pub. The Texas Tech University graduate first put a band together with his college buddies (first going by 84 West, then Wade Bowen & West 84) and toured incessantly across Texas. Over time, he expanded his touring state by state. Charlie Daniels and his fiddle are still going at it after decades together on stage. He performs Saturday night at Boondocks Pub. The 78-year-old native of North Carolina formed his first band in his early 20s. While the Jaguars recorded a disc, it did not get much attention. By the late 1960s, Daniels decided to move to Nashville to become a session musician. He played on albums by Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr and toured with Leonard Cohen. With bands such as the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd turning heads in the 1970s, Daniels formed the Charlie Daniels Band in 1972 and played Southern rock through the 1970s, garnering hits with “Uneasy Rider,” the future platinum album “Fire on the Mountain,” 1975’s “Nightrider,” and the Top 10 album “Saddle Tramp.” With the Southern rock audience waning by the late 1970s, Daniels turned to a more straightforward country sound and in 1979 released a song that is still on the radio to this day — “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” This song would hit No. 1 on the country charts, No. 3 three on the pop charts, was named the Country Music Association’s Single of the Year, and won a Grammy Award. The album “Million Mile Reflections” would become a multi-platinum hit. Check out the article from Dru Willis here: bit.ly/1sjq4BL
