Showdown! “Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company - TopicsExpress

Showdown! “Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company be present before the Lord tomorrow, both you and they along with Aaron.” (Numbers 16:16, NASB95) The Biblical stories of confrontation are great sources of encouragement. Who doesn’t gain strength by reading about a little shepherd boy, despised by his brothers and almost laughed at by the King, who stands in front of a menacing giant and says, “Who are you to defy the armies of the living God?” When Goliath falls to the ground, all of us shout a shout of victory. Or when Shadrach, Mishack, and Abednego refused to bow down before King Nebuchadnezzar’s colossal statue, who is not inspired by their bravery? One of my favorite showdowns is when Elijah challenges those 450 pagan prophets in his confrontation on Mt. Carmel. If that’s not a display of power, I’m not sure what is! When Korah rose up against Moses, Moses responded differently than he had with previous attempts at mutiny. Rather than humility, Moses confronts Korah face-to-face. The older I get, the more I see the wisdom in Moses’s action. When you stand for something, you have to fight for it. Our society may want us to think that the “Christian” thing to do is to turn the other cheek, to love our enemy, and to trust God to fix all the problems. When I read the pages of the Bible, however, I find that God appointed leaders like Moses, and then expected those leaders to defend their God appointed position. Are there some areas in your life in which you need to have a showdown?
