Shrimp News : ** Vietnam : May Limit Shrimp Exports to China. * Vietnamese processors have to import shrimp from other countries because so much of the locally farmed whole shrimp is exported to China. Monday, November 25, 2013, Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the VASEP, said the exports to China create a shortage of whole shrimp for Vietnamese processors. Many processors now import whole shrimp from India and Ecuador. VASEP figures show that Vietnam has imported 270,000 metric tons of shrimp from India and 230,000 tons from Ecuador. Hoe called on the government to institute policies that would limit whole shrimp exports to China, which would free up shrimp for local processors and increase their export value. ** Vietnam : Shrimp Prices Soared in Mid-November 2013 During mid-November 2013 in Ca Mau Province, the largest producer of farmed shrimp in Vietnam, the price for 20-count, whole, giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) was $13.74 per kilogram, up $0.47/kg over the previous week. The price for 30-count, whole tigers was $10.90/kg, up $0.24; and the price for 40-count tigers was $9.72, up $0.47/kg. All size classes of whole, white shrimp (P. vannamei) advanced about $0.50 a kilogram in mid-November. ** The Shrimp Club of Indonesia (SCI) has about 500 members, and all of them are enjoying the highest shrimp prices ever! Indonesia, one of the largest shrimp producers in the world, does not have EMS/AHPND. Broodstock and postlarvae are mainly produced locally to make sure diseases are not imported from other countries. SCI recommends that farmers use an integrated farm management approach that incorporates nutritional and environmental aspects. Many farmers use biofloc and semi-floc systems to balance the pond ecosystem. Many abandoned farms are now back in business.:(
