Siang Stage-I & Stage-II Dam over Siang River opposed ITANAGAR, Sept 16: The two-day all Banggo level meeting of Upper Siang and dam affected part of East Siang district held at Yingkiong general ground, Upper Siang on September 14 and 15, has vehemently opposed the construction of Siang Stage-I and Stage-II Dam over Siang River. “The project will devastate human lives and bio-diversity of both the districts by inundating all forest and agriculture lands. The dams, if completed, will flood all fertile agricultural lands, destroy ecology, flora and fauna of entire Siang belt and displace thousands of people of Siang valley, the meeting observed. It was also resolved to form a Anti-Dam Core Committee in the name of Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF) which will take up all matter related to dams over Siang River with the appropriate authorities of the State and the Central Governments. Public Leader of Pangin Kaling Jerang, social activist from Mechuka Tsering Naksang and Siang Peoples Forum general secretary Oyar Gao also attended the meeting and explained in details about the advantages and disadvantages of mega dam. Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, MLA Alo Libang, all four ZPMs of Tuting-Yingkiong constituency, ASMs, Panchayat members, GBs/HGBs, local public, dam affected villagers, representatives of Mori Banggo, Rotgo Banggo, Ringgong Banggo, Nigong Banggo, Boying Banggo, Magong Banggo and Begging Banggo, AdiSU, etc. attended the meeting The meeting was chaired by Gemin Jiji, President ABK, Upper Siang unit, according to a release issued by Gemin Jiji.
