Sideboard circa 1880-1910 (coinciding with the Arts Nouveau movement) FILIPINO (mis-attributed as Anglo Indian) Baliuag (or Baliwag), Bulacan Narra with Carabao bone inlay A sideboard or altar table (mesa altar) of red Narra wood with carabao (water buffalo) bone inlay. Mis-attributed as Anglo Indian. The table has a modified bombé shape with an outward curving or bulging curve. Unlike earlier examples of altar tables exhibiting a mitered top with a floating central panel, the top is solid wood cabinetry. The top and sides are decorated with floral and trailing vine inlays done in the emerging Arts Nuveau style with naturalistic flowers meandering in sinuous and whiplash-like curves. The table has a drawer frieze comprising of one long central panel and two short drawers, each with conforming inlays. The drawers are raised on an apron decorated with small rosettes and diamond shaped motifs. Two pendant finials demarcate the borders of the central drawer. The whole raised on four, tapering turned legs. Dimensions: 38 x 64 x 24 inches (96.5 x 162.5 x 60.9 cm)
