Sied van Riel : Here is another story about how a production was done. Most of you will probably remember the remix I did for Armin van Buuren & Jennifer Renes Fine Without You. Theres a funny story to this remix actually. After receiving the parts from Armada I initially added acoustic guitars to replace the electric ones so I could use them in the breakdown. The build was less long and less intense and looking back.. the climax was weak sauce. After spending about a week or 2 on it I thought Id done a good job and send it over to Armin and Sander at the office for approval. Im an openminded producer and Im always open to feedback. Im a strong believer that I can learn from solid and constructive feedback. Thankfully they were honest to me and said.. this doesnt sound like SVR, you can do way better then this. And honestly they couldnt have been more right. This was my first time remixing for an artist of this magnitude, so I was focussed to deliver! Thankfully they gave me a second chance and I dove in to the studio to try and come up with a completely different remix. I started using vst plugins I hadnt used before to come up with weird things for the track (imp oscar, oddity) These synths define most of the sounds before the first drop. I used over the top compression and side-chain compression + reverb on the vocal and then routing it through the NI Guitar Rig to make it all edgy and dark. Took my Virus TI and created the bass line thats pretty obvious through out the entire track. The portamento lead sound that starts in the breakdown was also made with the Virus TI. Processed the drums with some tape delays here and there, combined this all with some parts from the original track and voila.. V2 was a fact. I send it to to them again for approval and sat back in the studio all nervous for a bit.. and then... What I got back from Armin was the best news ever and Ill never forgot it... Yessssssssss THIS is SVR!!!!!!!!! I think I jumped up so high in my studio back then that I cracked the ceiling. ( Dont tell him I said that hahaha) Heres the remix as it was released. https://youtube/watch?v=2REyi4PT0pI
