Sierra Leone must start in this month of January to reassess its healthcare systems to ensure the People are Protected. High levels of communicable and parasitic disease are being killing our People. Rwanda is known, of course, for the 1994 genocide that killed 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu. Since 1994, the country has been ruled by Paul Kagame, at first as de facto leader and, since 2000, as president. Kagame runs a repressive regime that equates criticism with treason; opposition journalists or politicians in Rwanda have disappeared or died mysteriously. Over the last decade in Rwanda, deaths from HIV, TB, and malaria dropped by 80 percent, maternal mortality dropped by 60 percent, life expectancy doubled -- all at an average health care cost of $55 per person per year. Rwanda. Payments are low – at around two dollars per year – and over 90% of the population belongs to the scheme. Two dollars may not sound much, but the poorest struggle to pay even that. Reforms to the insurance system will introduce grading according each person’s ability to pay. Operations and specialist treatment have to be paid for, but the health insurance covers basic medical care for all the common illnesses. With more than 1.2 million cases of malaria and over 7,000 cases of tuberculosis in 2009, this is a huge financial burden for the country. Foreign organisations (such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) provide grants to help fund the costs. My Fellow Sierra Leonean, Doctors and Nurses all over the World. Please join me in this mission to Protect the life of all Fellow Sierra Leonean. Each life is important to our nation. Sierra Leone need Universal Healthcare. Let our People get the Protection they Deserve. In Universal Healthcare People will get the treatment they deserve and it reduces Poverty.
