Sierratel boosts fight against Ebola By State House Communications Unit Winner of the prestigious All Walks Of Life (AWOL) award as the best telecommunications Company for 2013, Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company (Sierratel) has presented the sum of Le.200 Million to President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma to boost the fight against the Ebola outbreak. The presentation was made by the Board Chair, Mrs. Alice Onomake, who said that they were anxious to help mitigate the ravages of this affliction. We are here to make a modest contribution to the fight against this menace. Without much ado, I have here a cheque of the sum of Le.200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million Leones) as our contribution. Responding, President Koroma described the gesture as not only timely but worthy of emulation. He thanked the delegation for the contribution towards the national effort in fighting Ebola. “Ebola as I have always mentioned is deadly. Ebola is serious and it is with us,” the President said. He urged that if as a country we don’t put up a strong fight against Ebola, “It will continue to ravage our people and it will also have a socio-economic effect on the country. That is why I made the appeal and I do welcome this response to this appeal by a corporate institution like Sierratel.” The President noted that the cheque will be delivered to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation for it to be used for the purpose for which it was presented. “We believe that all of us should be in this fight together as it is affecting every Sierra Leonean. It should be the responsibility of every other citizen, and I hope that today’s example will be followed by other national and private institutions,” he said.
