Sifu Ron – Founder, House of Tai Chi I started Judo at the Tai Jutsu Dojo in Chicago during the 60s when I was 15 years old. During this time, I studied Judo, Karate, and Aikido. I decided that karate was a better art for me because I weighed 100 lbs. at the time. I received my first black belt in 1968 and the second a year later. In 1970 I received 3 Dan from Tadashi Yamashita and I was also a second degree in Aikido with the Ju-Te organization. I was promoted by Sensei Pat Maze to brown belt in Judo and was Master in the Brotherhood of the Phoenix Gung-Fu system. For ten years I fought in tournaments and during a match I received injuries that caused internal bleeding from the kidney. During the time I was out of tournaments because of this injury, I met Master Liao and decided to take Tai Chi to heal and learn how to use TaiChi to outwit the external tournament scene. By using Sweep Lotus Kick and the Raise Hands Stance in tournament I became unbeatable. I then decided that this was not what I wanted to do any more, even though at first I thought that I wanted to be a star in Karate like Yamashita and would try to reach the level of Yamashita and earn his 7th degree red and white belt and be his disciple. (Yamashita moved to California to make the Octagon with Chuck Norris and, also, one of my students named Jim Kelly made the movie with Bruce Lee.) What I decided I really wanted was more ability and after I met Master, I gave up all of the external Arts for Tai Chi Chuan. I have been with Master Liao for 30 years and had training with a Shaolin Zen Priest that Master Liao introduced me to. After training with Master Liao for 10 years, I was given the gift to spread classical Tai Chi Chuan with the level of Sifu ordained to me by Master. I tested Tai Chi against full contact kick boxing in Japan and went back and forth to Asia to seek more ability from the Zen Master. I was given the name HoBan (meaning Good Man) from the Zen Master.I now teach private or semi-private Tai Chi in Fort Lauderdale, Florida under the name of House of Tai Chi.
