Sigh... LEAVE HEALTH CARE ALONE, MR. President!!!!! ARRRGGGHHH!!!!! For those that dont know our back-story - we had private health insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield until late last year when we received notice that the policy would be shut down (not PPACA-compliant), and that we would have to go through the marketplace for a new policy. After playing the same insane technology game for months, Diana and I ended up finally getting registered, and on a policy with... Blue Cross/Blue Shield... a very similar policy to the one we had that was supposedly non-compliant... Admittedly, we ended up with less expensive premiums - BUT - our daughters were automatically referred to DHS/ArkKids (without us being notified). OK - so we received a note from Blue Cross/Blue Shield last week thanking us for choosing them for our coverage... ummm.... huh? Weve been with them since January 1 - and have utilized our coverage... Maybe it is the auto-reneweal that I have been reading about? So in the mail today are separate mail pieces from the Arkansas Department of Human Services - that states that we have been approved for Medicaid Health Care Independence Program... and states: We have received your information regarding your Medicaid application from the Health Insurance Marketplace. You qualify for the Arkansas Health Care Independence Program starting January-01-2014. You will now need to complete the enrollment process for this coverage by answering a few questions at insureark.org and then selecting a Qualified Health Plan that is right for you. The selection process must be completed by Aug-26-2014. If this selection process has not been completed by this date, you will be automatically assigned to a health insurance plan... A little further down: Once enrolled in a plan, Medicaid will pay your monthly premium. You may have some small copays depending on your income. This decision is based on Arkansas Medicaid Services Policy Sections A-180 and C-120. I guess I will burn half a day Monday calling and asking what this is about. Sigh...
