Sign up your child for this free Grand Manan Museum Children’s Program: “The War of 1812 from a Child’s perspective” With David Goss, Saint John author and storyteller Using games, stories, crafts, Mr. Goss will immerse the children into the life of a child 200 years ago as the War of 1812 was occurring, and give them an appreciation for what a child of that time living on the coast of New Brunswick would have experienced. They will meet uncles who tell stories of the march through the winter wilderness to Kingston, older cousins who served on privateering vessels that sailed the Fundy in search of the enemy; father’s who came home from sea battles with stories of hidden or sunken treasure in and around the Fundy’s Isles. Old documents will be read that will reveal how family friends were pressed into service building fortifications like St Andrew’s Blockhouse or Saint John’s Martello tower, and which will show how mother’s and sisters carried on their work on the home front taking care of children, their upbringing and education. The workshops will be split into three 50 minute sessions with a nutrition break between the second and third. This will be an interactive session with lots of hands on activity and all materials will be provided. Some portions will be outdoors with some walking involved, (weather permitting) so come prepared for both indoor and outdoor sessions. Ages: 5+ Cost: Free! Date: Saturday, August 10, 2013 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Location: Grand Manan Museum, Elmer Wilcox Memorial Hall
