Silent Sunday Pt. 67 Hello everybody! It was overdue that I spend some time/space on this little blog with Bay Area Thrash/Funk Metal pioneers Mordred, https://facebook/MordredBand Originally formed as traditional Thrash act as early as 1984 and after releasing two demos, it was their Noise Records debut “Fool’s Game” from 1989 that made me a fan right away when the opening combo “State Of Mind” and “Spectacle Of Fear” kicked off. I had a “Fool’s Game” poster up on my room’s wall back then, but it was actually their 1991 album “In This Life”, a release as groundbreaking in its crossover appeal as it was genius in songwriting/musicianship level, that became my new addiction… Its vibrant opening title track and especially the album’s second single “Esse Quam Videri” showed the band going stronger for the Funk Rock vibe but it was presented and “crossed over” so well, that one could only dig it and tag along. I really don’t wanna highlight any certain song/s on this flawless album (which reminds me of today’s lost art of creating 100% interesting and high-quality records from beginning to end…), but I need to point out that the track “Falling Away” remains in the top section of my fave metal songs of all time. Oh man, that (quite long) lead guitar section from 2:30 to 3:50 is pure mastery! To this day, I still don’t understand why this single didn’t make Mordred one of the biggest bands of their time...what a shame!!? After the awesome “Falling Away” single (including a cover of Thin Lizzy’s “Johnny The Fox…”) release and their “In This Live” live-album/video release, I somehow and unfortunately failed to get into the “Vision” EP and their final “The Next Room” 1994 album (which featured a different singer), before Mordred broke up in 1995… Mordred online links: Facebook profile: https://facebook/MordredBand YourTube channel: youtube/user/mordredband Big Cartel store: mordred.bigcartel/ Falling Away video: youtube/watch?v=ep94iPgLPow Falling Away (from In This Live video, 1991):youtube/watch?v=GJqKGgpznns Falling Away live 1992: youtube/watch?v=o2ydIbojOtI In This Life track: youtube/watch?v=4T_hbUwTdjk The Strain track: youtube/watch?v=-2S5Hr3IIJs Esse Quam Videri video: youtube/watch?v=So1oXivo6jQ Johnny The Fox… (Thin Lizzy cover): youtube/watch?v=U4NSspVMg8g State Of Mind track: youtube/watch?v=FlgXx7g8zjA State Of Mind (from In This Live video, 1991): youtube/watch?v=3QPW11j7SLA State Of Mind live reunion 2014: youtube/watch?v=3QPW11j7SLA Every Day’s A Holiday video: youtube/watch?v=fYHzO8T33nY Demo I 1986: youtube/watch?v=8h317nEMjFU Demo II 1987: youtube/watch?v=3jcBIyhHhwY Reunion tour 20114 teaser: https://facebook/video.php?v=1507060546200407 Mordred have recently reformed (after originally making a comeback between 2001 and 2007 only for sporadic live-shows) in the line-up of the “In This Life” release and just finished a tour in the UK. Apparently the band is working on new material right now (A first new single called “The Baroness” can already be heard via their Facebook profile!) and hopefully I will get a chance to finally see Mordred live for the first time ever in 2015 at some point?! In the meantime…enjoy Mordred’s fantastic classic music and have a good Sunday! Leif & D-S
