Silent Sunday Pt. 72 Hello sunny Sunday! Do I understand FB right that only by the more you guys interact here now about this post, the more it will actually reach people? If so, please click, read, like, comment, share, re-post and so on ;-) Today’s 72nd post is about US metallers Revocation / facebook/revocation When somebody first told me to check these guys out some years ago, I had to think of the Swedish Death Metallers (Evocation). One letter in front of a cool and established band name can make a difference, you know?! Omega Death, Gin Somnium, Rex Odus, Bobituary, Bon Slaught, March Enemy or Fat The Gates? ;-) Anyways, Revocation are a technical Death/Thrash Metal group from Boston, Massachusetts that started out in 2006 (after being previously called Cryptic Warning since 2000). After an EP and their self-released debut full-length “Empire Of The Obscene” in 2008, they hooked up with Relapse Records for the next 3 albums (“Existence Is Futile” in 2009, “Chaos Of Forms” in 2011 and “Revocation” in 2013) and toured heavier as well as more internationally in these past years. Revocation now released their 5th and Zeuss-produced album entitled “Deathless” via Metal Blade Records (making them our European labelmates…) last month. Fortunately it isn’t “deathless” at all, but instead continues the four-piece’s fine tradition of hyper-melodic pounding thrash-rooted death metal, where the amount of shred isn’t meant to simply cover up songwriting deficits... To give you a hint: I sometimes had to think of Chuck Schuldiner’s Death (the general style?) or even some Dark Angel (the amount of riffs?) and Megadeth (the melody?) with their earlier releases and having recorded covers of Exhorder, Death, Faith No More, Metallica and now Morbid Angel speaks for itself too?! But Revocation are clearly more modern and multi-layered: The amount of awesome riffing going into the songs on “Deathless” is simply jaw-dropping and any real extreme metalfan should feel nicely entertained from beginning to end on this sonic journey. And then you will even want to re-wind certain parts or even repeat play…promised!
