Silver Girl Life is so much more than a simple highway to heaven with a piece of binder twine and a roll of duct tape for the way. God has delivered us once and for all from oppression and we can look forward to the full realization of that truth as we freely travel the course of faith that God has set us on. Rest assured, he has laden us with gifts and clothed us with power for the journey. Sometimes we have all the time and space in the world but absolutely nothing to work with except visions and dreams that we can’t possibly fulfill. We can despair over the loss of all things or we can embrace a golden opportunity to abide in the Lord who can make something out of nothing. (Romans 4:17) One night, I fell asleep and dreamed a dream… I was seated alone in a fairly large canoe or gondola of sorts that was being piloted by an unknown visibly invisible companion. I sat up front. My guide stood while kneeling with one leg on the seat in the back of the boat. It seemed as if he were paddling soundlessly with one oar, first one side, then the other. The canoe cut smoothly and glided easily through the crystal clear water. I glanced down over the side of the boat. I saw a green and brown brocade couch or chair, fully submerged but clearly visible at the tip of the triangle where the top meets the back meets the side. Next, the tail end of a black GTO sticking cockeyed out of the water came into view. I looked up. Straight ahead, I saw the most beautiful golden beach. There was one small golden building to my left, visible only at the angled corner. Two golden hand rails – one shorter, one longer but equal in height – were standing in the sand slightly to the right of the building. Two golden young men were cavorting in and around the bars. Throughout the dream, Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” played on in the background and, for reasons known only to God, I was totally comforted. I Admit … I have but visions and dreams … So many words to fulfill … Yet, God ... Yes! You, O’ God, have all the power and the means; Therefore, into your creative hands, I submit these inspirations, So that you, O’ God, by me, might bring them all to pass. I have but time and space … So much work left to do … Yet, God … Yes! You, O’ God, have all the glory and the grace; Therefore, unto your eternal plans, I commit this habitation, So that you, O’ God, through me, might do the work that lasts. Apart from you, O’ God, I can do nothing, But with you I can do all things; Therefore, I submit, Unto you I commit all of my life and my living. ~ Penny Lee “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” ~ John 15:4, 5
