Simeon Afolabi To Me 3 Dec 2013 Tuesday, December 3 LIGHT IN THE WORKPLACE “The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret” Daniel 2:47. There were at least three instances where Nebuchadnezzar confessed publicly the God of Israel. The passage before us is the first of them. The second confession came after his plot to consume Daniel’s friends in fire failed. “Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the kings word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God” (Daniel 3:28). He made another confession of God’s greatness after he had been humbled and finally restored. Now, these confessions did not come in a vacuum. They were as a result of those who knew their God taking their place or taking a stand in the workplace. Daniel revealed to the king a secret that no one knew; and therefore showed what God could do. His friends took a stand not to bow to idols; and they enjoyed miraculous deliverance. They were God’s light in heathen Babylon. The import of today’s meditation is to show that the workplace provides enormous opportunity to shine the light of God to the world. That’s the place we spend most part of our time; and that is where we have the greatest opportunity to let our light shine. Christians don’t go to work simply to go earn a living; they go there to go do ministry and extend the territories of the Kingdom of God.
