Simon & Simon helped rule the 1980s television landscape on CBS. Two mix-matched brothers who run their own detective agency in San Diego and had contrasting ways of getting things done. It worked with audiences. Rick, the older, down-to-earth brother, and AJ, the sensible, business-minded younger brother, bickering and doing the things that most brothers do: working each others nerves. I didnt care much for this show as much as other people. It was kind of a one-note gimmick for me. I actually preferred the down-on-their-luck-always-struggling-to-get-clients-and-pay-their-bills tone of season one, over the upscale lifestyle they seemed to transition into with the following seasons. Not to say it didnt make good television (I LOVED the reworked Pirates Key two-part episode) or do interesting things (they had crossover episodes with Magnum, P.I. and Whiz Kids that I know of). The show was fun-loving for the most part, and I have to admit that the personalities and character moments of the Simon boys were genuinely fun to watch.
