Since I am a news, current events, junkie, with my visit to Russia and my additional Russian studies, my friends have been asking me questions like “what is going on in the Ukraine and how does it affect us?”. I have decided to put on a little seminar over the next few weeks. The subject heading will all start with “Understanding … bla, bla”. Session one: Understanding Putin … The important things are: that he was raised to be tough; spent most of his career in the KGB and he is a genius at reading people. His approach to governing is that of a military type of leadership. When he met with Obama he was able to determine that Obama would not put troops on the ground over an “internal” conflict. Putin’s dream, our nightmare, is to reunite the previous Soviet states into a greater Russia. However, he is not politically equipped to use the honey versus vinegar approach. This, what we are seeing now, is the only way that he relates to. Enjoy!
