Since I got the expected vitriol from folks about the Suarez - TopicsExpress

Since I got the expected vitriol from folks about the Suarez comments, allow me now to elaborate. I didnt say Suarez didnt deserve the suspension. Clearly, as a repeat offender, he does. All I said is it was excessive. And all of you went mental, like I was defending, oh I dont know, Ryan Shawcross. https://youtube/watch?v=I9FJKunkmKQ Now if you want my opinion (or even if you dont, I dont care, Im educating you anyways), football has always been ridiculously inconsistent with its discipline. Shawcross, a player who had TWICE before severely injured players (Aaron Jeffries and Emmanuel Adebayor) with his reckless challenges, did THIS to Aaron Ramsey and what does he get? A three-match ban. To make matters worse, Stoke honored this guy by handing him the captains armband the following year. In the meantime, Ramsey took two years to fully recover, and has never been the same player since. The list of weak bans that resulted from horrific, reckless challenges is too long to list here (anyone remember Jamie Carraghers unpunished challenge on Nani a few years ago that opened a horrific gash on his leg? I know a few of you ManU fans do). By comparison, Suarez bites Giorgio Chiellini (he didnt punch him, kick him, elbow him, karate chop him, or headbutt him) and he get a four-month ban? To me, biting is a step up from spitting on someone. Its deliberate, offensive and unprofessional, but unless Suarez goes full Mike Tyson on the guy (or has rabies, is a vampire or a zombie), the worst Chiellini suffers is a few minutes of discomfort. The punishment should fit the crime. Diatribe over. Let the games begin.
