Since I just bought a new typewriter that can fit by USB into the computer and the Ipad, Im thinking of films that have used typewriters as apart of plot and character development: Broken Flowers. This Jim Jarmusch film tells the life of a Don Johnston who is searching for his son and is being led around by pink letters written on a typewriter. This is really one of the best Bill Murray films in his dramatic career. Naked Lunch. The infamous book by William S. Borroughs recieved the royal filmic treatment by Canadian director David Cronenberg who decided to base Naked Lunch more on Burroughs real life as an exterminator who is addicted to bug powder. When he performs a William Tell routine with his wife, Joan, he runs to Interzone where he becomes in league with many characters from Burroughs own life, such as the Bowles. As Bill Lee becomes more addicted to each new drug, his typewriter, turns into a bug that is apart of a larger interzone conspiracy. The cult classic gives enough reason to be afraid of a typewriter. This movie is the perfect example of alliteration meeting the brilliant New York style acting by Peter Weller. Its one of the best endings to a movie about William S Burroughs. Highly recommended but not for the faint of heart. Barton Fink. The essential cult classic film by the Coen Brothers is about a playwright who goes to Hollywood to work on his first screenplay. Barton essentially has writers block, and goes to studio heads, novelists turned screenwriters (William Faulkner), and a over friendly salesmen who is more than who he seems. This is one of the best versions of Hollywood capitalism meets personal hell for all writers. In summation, these movies show how typewriters still have their usefulness in an age of microsoft word. Thats all for the day. Louis Bruno usbtypewriter/collections/typewriters/products/typewriter-computer-keyboard-ipad-stand-model-sm
