Since Oak Creek Canyon experienced a major forest fire in June, - TopicsExpress

Since Oak Creek Canyon experienced a major forest fire in June, Cheryl Thornburg Post and I decided a trip up the canyon would be worthwhile. This is the edited dashcam video of the drive. A couple of things to note. First, Uptown Sedona is its usual busy self. Lots of traffic. Second, in the Canyon, traffic is very light. On a normal July Saturday, travel up 89A would be be slow and even stop and go in places. Now, all of the public campgrounds are closed. Slide Rock State Park is open but creek access is restricted. Most of the private areas are open and suffered no damage. There is no evidence of fire damage along the highway but the upper slopes and cliffs are bare. We have some additional still photos to show more detail which will come later. I may edit and post the return dashcam video since it shows how empty the highway was. At some places, we simply stopped in the road and took pictures. No cars behind us.
