Since everyone is posting memories...here is mine. 9 years ago today we had a generator going and satellite tv was up and running. I sat jaw to the floor watching the neighborhood I grew up, the city I loved and Da Parish that held my heart for so many years be devoured by water. I was saddened for the loss but was learning what was important in life. Our home here on the northshore had damage, but nothing compared to what I was watching. We had no power for 20something days, but nothing compared to what others were experiencing. We lost a few material items but nothing compared to what others lost. We were blessed. I watched strangers come together to help one another. Neighbors pulling out big equipment to help clear roads and everyone helping to feed each other. Material things arent important to me anymore. My Family and friends are what I hold dear. I love our little home but its not a home without a family and any house can be a home! As I sit here now all these years later I still tear up for the city that was lost. The city that will never be the same. One that has somehow turned ugly. Almost as though the muck of the flood waters was never washed clean. The evil has taken over and crime is out of hand. This is the devastation that is left today. New houses, new paint, pretty gardens all nice...but there seems to be a darkness hovering now. My heart will always, for some reason, be tied to the great city I grew up in. I love NOLA. The music, the food, the French Quarter and I so miss being able just to take a day a stroll the streets. Instead I embrace life with clear eyes to enjoy the little things, because it can change in the blink of an eye or with a clap of thunder....
