Since, it is Christmas and Santa Clause will be making his trip - TopicsExpress

Since, it is Christmas and Santa Clause will be making his trip around the world and out of this world on Christmas Eve, let me describe the perils of space he will be running into. If Santa were to step out into space without a space suit this is what would happen. In the near vacuum of space: the gasses would immediately expand. His blood would boil from solution in his bloodstream. Their is another peril: lack of oxygen. After 20 sec. and with no oxygen, Santa would be trading in his Christmas wings for a more permanent variety. Lets give Santa a break. At least he has oxygen and a pressurized atmosphere. But we missed something. In the daytime of the sun, temperatures would get up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Well above the boiling point of water. His boots at this temperature would only provide scant insulation from the sun. Another peril awaiting Santa would be glare from the sun. In addition infrared and ultraviolet radiation would permanently his eyes. The night would also hold another peril. The temperature would get down to -271 degrees Fahrenheit (300 degrees below the freezing point of water) and quick freeze Santa. Sorry, Santa their is also another danger, high velocity objects like micrometeorites and orbital debris. Although the odds of micrometeorites and orbital debris striking an astronaut is low. Any puncture would be uncomfortable. Source: NASA- Lunar Space Suits(https://youtube/watch?v=i2sG-0Vbmzo)
