Since launching our Taxi Campaign, we’ve had a fantastic response from students and taxi companies alike, and have also seen some improvements to the service! A couple of things have cropped up which we would like to draw your attention to: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CROSS BORDER JOURNEYS - (e.g. travelling from Leamington to Campus) Warwick University is based on the Coventry and Warwickshire Border, meaning that taxis are covered by two separate local authorities. Either side of Gibbet Hill Road is considered to be in different districts - for example, the Students’ Union is therefore in a different local authority than Leamington Spa. The law is different when it comes to going Cross Border - if a taxi goes cross border, it can refuse to take you and it can charge whatever price they would like, as long as it is agreed by both Taxi Driver and Passenger. However, if you want to get a taxi from Leamington to Campus, you CAN get a taxi which can’t refuse you and has to travel by a metered fare as long as you say you want to go to Cryfield, Heronbank, Lakeside, Radcliffe House or Scarman House. These locations are all in the Warwick District side of campus, so they will be controlled by Warwick District Council. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - WARWICK DISTRICT FARE INCREASES As of Monday 27th October, taxi fares have gone up in Warwick District, meaning that if you’re travelling back to campus or longer distances from Leamington or elsewhere in the Warwick District, prices will have increased. You may therefore find you’re being quoted higher fares than previously. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dont forget that its illegal for a driver to refuse a fare because the distance is too short - if this happens to you, we now have an online reporting form available to fill out so that we can take this up with the local authority: warwicksu/campaigns/taxis/
