Since swallowing my pride and taking my doctors order to use a permanent handicap parking pass, I have encountered my fair share of dirty looks, disapproving head shakes and rude comments. Having an invisible illness and what appears to be a normal physique makes me an easy target for negativity. The other day, my husband drove me to the grocery store and got a first hand glimpse into my new reality. An older man watched us pull into the handicap spot and immediately began shaking his head and passing judgement on us. Alan shouted out to him Do you have a problem? Because i can see you shaking your head with no idea what is wrong with him. The man shouted back I can do whatever I want and raced off into the store. I would typically keep updates like this limited to my Bionic Bear Rob profile, however; this message is about compassion and would benefit everyone. What people need to realize is the state would not haphazardly issue a permanent handicap tag to someone if it wasnt absolutely warranted. Passing judgement only makes their struggles that much harder.
