Since the abduction of the Chibok girls in April, thousands of other people have been abducted displaced or murdered. These terrorists are supposed to be bonafide northerners too. Why are these elders not issuing them ultimatum to stop these senseless destructions of lives and property in these most impoverished parts of Nigeria? Tying the ambition of an individual to the rescue of the Chibok girls has succeeded in politicizing a serious national security issue thereby making light of such an important matter. Issuing empty threats in the media has also succeeded in ridiculing the NEF and those they claim to represent. They are just succeeding in trivializing a most significant issue. With the build-up to the 2015 general elections, these northern elders want to follow the same method that has so far failed them. They requested power shift to the north in 2007; Obasanjo succeeded in foisting a sick man on the nation in the name of a so-called north’s turn. We attacked YarAdua on the pages of newspapers because of his incapacity to lead Nigeria, not because he was a northerner. He died after heading one of the most provincial governments in the history of this country as his circle consisted mostly of Katsina people.
