Since the beginning of this Centennial year, we the members of the COGBF have paused to recognize those who have labored before us. We learned that they built the churches in which they worshipped; benches in which they sat and even grew the food they consumed. They toiled from dusk to dawn just to enjoy the most meager existence. While it’s quite expensive for some to attend the Atlanta conference, the costs our Founders paid to assemble was almost unimaginable. The Executive Council gathered first to physically build the assembly halls, dining rooms and even the rest rooms. They built the hotels in which they rested and dug wells to sip a cup of water. The deacons made provisions for every Alachua Convention traveler who came by horse, Model T’s or on foot. Their commitment to serving the Lord and each other far surpassed every physical and financial obstacle they faced The generation that followed expanded those accomplishments in Ocala with a larger assembly hall, dining rooms, K-12 school, Head Start program, National Burial League and in-house printing presses—just to name a few. And now, it’s our time. Will our legacy read that we attended some hotel in some city where some strangers hosted us? Will we recall powerful messages and healing services that will truly inspire us to seal our contributions to this great church?
