Since the dawn of civilization, astronomy has provided stepping stones for mankind to achieve great success, successes such as our calendar, system of time keeping, satellite-communications systems, much of todays mathematics and the basis of all modern science and engineering, as well as navigational techniques that allowed sailors and aviators to explore our planet and today allows spacecraft to explore our solar system. While there is much that astronomy has yet to contribute to human knowledge and understanding, it made a monumental contribution to technological progress. Scientists from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) stress that astronomy is our tool for unlocking future knowledge. For the past 26 years, NASA scientists have been communicating with Voyagers 1 and 2 and are aware that the location of these traveling spacecraft is farther than they could have ever hoped for Cruising past our planets, heading for their projected destination the planets of the outer solar system. Voyagers 1 and 2 have reached their goal and are now headed out of our solar system. Dr. Tom Krimigis of the Applied Physics Laboratory at John Hopkins University says, Were getting out of the protective cocoon of the sun and this clearly marks a milestone in humanitys knowledge of our environment. There has to be a sense of wonder in that this is the first man-made object that is touching interstellar space. With all of the information and knowledge gained from spacecraft such as Voyagers 1 and 2, there is a tremendous sense of wonder! There are still so many intriguing, unanswered questions about outer space that this sense of wonder has swept the nation. Of all the reasons for exploring outer space, such as locating new planets and studying black holes, many want to know: Is there life beyond our planet? Are we alone in this universe? Could we one day live on the moon? Telescopes here on Earth, such as the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope, help astronomers gather information to perhaps one day answer such out-of-this-world questions. Come along on a journey with us to the end of our solar system and beyond as we experience the power of the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope. But what will be the conclusion about the origin of that tiny material to make this huge concept of the universe? Will Astronauts unlock the secrets behind? So on...
