Since the inception of the Air Corps only a small number of Irish - TopicsExpress

Since the inception of the Air Corps only a small number of Irish pilots have ever had the honour of receiving Irish Military Wings and flying the flag for Ireland. These pilots proudly served the Country and have pioneered aviation in Ireland, from the aerial conquest of the Atlantic to the introduction of the jet engines & helicopters to Ireland, and from setting up an Irish Search & Rescue service to the use of modern day Night Vision Googles in our military aircraft. The footprint of these pioneering pilots isnt limited to the Air Corps and some of these flying officers have gone on to fill the highest positions in airlines around the world, others have become leaders in aviation regulatory bodies and rescue services, weve even had a hand in an All Ireland winning team! These men and women have carried forward the ethos of vigilance and loyalty that was instilled into them during their Air Corps cadet course and proudly represent the Ireland in the sky around the world. Military Archives have just release 44 digitized photographs of the Air Corps Cadet classes dating back to 1939. These photographs show almost all of the flight officers who have had the honour of proudly serving the country through the Air Corps.
