Since this article will make the rounds, I think good to clarify. It is highly unlikely that your hips will be pulled out of your sockets. However I do support the main idea in this article, that some extreme poses are not valuable for health and longevity, just like circus moves are not about good health. That said, safe and intelligent stretching of the hips, especially for those who walk/run/hike/bike/tennis etc, is crucial for hip mobility and health. The article does mention this. I am really grateful that articles like this are coming out, supporting my long contention that being ridiculously flexible is not healthy or balanced. I think it is important to note that femur bones forward in the hip socket is very prevalent in people who sit in badly fitted chairs and cars all day, and in those whose posture is hips forward, knees locked back, lower back swayed. In my opinion, this is a great start to bringing yoga back as a health practice, not as a competitive, ego-driven performance. Namaste!
