Since we are having a drought here in Southern CA, I tried - TopicsExpress

Since we are having a drought here in Southern CA, I tried something different this year. My one gallons were placed in the 15 gal. Containers on top of the soil. When I watered, the water from the ones percolated down into the 15s. thus saving water. That way it didnt run all out onto hard ground. I found I could usually fit 4 ones into the 15. As a side benefit, I found the ones tended to grow fast and reach there roots down into the 15 for water. Look at the root system when I reported the ones when they got large enough to go into 5 gal. Containers. I would have gone up to a 2 gal. First but I dont have any more two gal. Containers. It was like I plunged them. I love the root system. Only disadvantage is they are in the shade if the larger 15 gal. Trees, but the roots outweigh that I think.
