Since were all about the Moon in our February 8, event, we thought wed share some lunar teasers, including this bit about the coming Lunar Tetrad~a progression of four total lunar eclipses uninterrupted by partial eclipses, from April 2014 to April 2015: During the 5000-year period from -1999 to +3000, there are 3479 total lunar eclipses...There will be 142 tetrads among these 3479 eclipses. The mechanism causing tetrads involves the eccentricity of Earths orbit in conjunction with the timing of eclipse season. During the present millennium, the first eclipse of every tetrad occurs sometime from February to July. In later millennia, the first eclipse date gradually falls later in the year because of precession.
