Sincere appeal to every mid-career IT professional to read this as well share with their friends and colleagues. Everything in life has a beginning & ending. Other than these two, there is the middle, which can be quite a muddle (problem). Not because that there is inherently anything wrong with people, but the problems, circumstances & challenges one faces could exceed ones own preparedness and coping mechanisms traditionally learnt from our environment. While the lifes challenges teach us valuable experiences but there is also a risk of forming very strong views of how life has to be dealt with. While this may giving us some certainity as to how we want to face lifes problems moving forward, the approaches in themselves could be limited. This could be seen in our lives where, we might be having definite success but we also are painfully aware of our lack of success in certain other areas. I am specifically concerned with Information Technology professionals as a Community. Being associated with the industry for over 20+ yrs, I am very concerned with what I hv been observing from close quarters for past few months & years. There is a rapid technology change, maturing industry that is pushing the stakeholder expectations upwards, intensified competition between industry players soaring the stress levels, many choices between technical/managerial & functional expertise not to speak of the combinations, the skill versus interest mismatch and work-life balance and mid-life issues all create a deadly cocktail making even the best and brightest fumble and get severely challenged. I will be lying if I say I have a solution to every possible problem out there. But, answer definitely lies in returning education and thats the approach I would heartily recommend. Not the conventional education on whose foundation that we have already built our lives upon, but a tranformational education that can revive and tranform our current perspectives about life. There could be many worthwhile alternatives for this but the one I have personally experienced benefited from over the last several months is the Landmark Forum and curriculum for living which promises living life powerfully and one that you love. Revisiting the strong perspectives we hold is by no means an easy proposition and certainly not for faint-hearted. However it is definitely much better than simply trying harder or being resigned or giving up on our dreans. Thank you for your reading and will be happy to clarify further on an one-on-one basis.
